In today’s video I go over the three main reasons someone would soak nuts and seeds, when it’s most important to soak them, and if I personally soak the nuts & seeds I eat. I also do a video demo showing all the steps in soaking nuts & seeds, including how to store the nuts & seeds, and for how long. Below is also a written summary of the instructions on how to soak nuts & seeds.
Directions on how to soak nuts/seeds (Almonds, Cashews, Pecans, Walnuts, Sunflower Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds):
1- Rinse the nuts/seeds
2- Put nuts/seeds in a glass bowl or jar and cover with water, plus a few extra inches/cm of water.
3- Leave uncovered, at room temperature to soak overnight (8-12 hours).
4- Rinse soaked nuts/seeds.
5- Can be stored in refrigerator for a few days, make sure to store in clean water in a sealed glass jar and change the water once or twice a day.
Directions on how to soak Chia Seeds:
Water measurements:
For every 1/4 Cup Chia Seeds used, use 1 Cup of water.
1- Place chia seeds and water in a glass bowl or jar.
2- Stir well to ensure the chia seeds and water are mixed thoroughly.
3- Leave uncovered, at room temperature to soak for at least 30 minutes or up to 8-12 hours (chia seeds absorb water and become gelatinous very quickly).
4- Can be stored in a sealed glass jar in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks.
Directions on how to soak Flax Seeds:

For every 1/4 Cup of Flax Seeds used, use 1/2 Cup of water
1- Place flax seeds and water in a glass bowl or jar.
2- Stir well to ensure the flax seeds and water are mixed thoroughly.
3- Leave uncovered, at room temperature to soak overnight (8-12 hours).
4- Can be stored in a sealed glass jar in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks.
Macadamia Nuts, Brazil Nuts and Pine Nuts don’t need to be soaked, unless a recipe specifically calls for it.
